How to Calculate the Length of a YouTube Playlist

It is not a big deal to use this tool as an HD photo downloader. You just have to follow the given guidelines and see the wonder that your photo will automatically come to your gallery:

  • Copy the playlist link.
    – In the YouTube app, open the playlist, tap Share → Copy link.
    – On a computer, open the playlist and copy the address bar. It contains list=, like youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…
    – A video link that was opened from a playlist works too, as long as it still has list= in it.
  • Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and tap Calculate.
  • Read your result. You’ll see:
    – the playlist title and channel;
    – how many videos were counted;
    – the total length, the average video length and a speed table.

Who Uses a Playlist Length Calculator?

  • Students working through a lecture series before an exam, who need to know whether it fits in the days they have left.
  • Self-learners planning a programming, language or design course at a steady pace, such as one hour a day.
  • Teachers and trainers checking how much class time a set of videos really takes.
  • Binge-watchers deciding whether that 200-episode playlist is a weekend plan or a winter project.

Honest Limits

We’d rather tell you up front what the calculator can’t do:

  • Private playlists can’t be read. That includes your Watch Later and Liked videos lists, which YouTube always keeps private. Public playlists work, and unlisted ones usually do too, as long as you have the link.
  • Auto-generated Mixes can’t be read. These are the “Mix” lists YouTube builds for you, with links containing list=RD…. YouTube creates them differently for every viewer, so there’s no fixed list to count. Save the videos to your own playlist (public or unlisted) and paste that link instead.
  • Very long playlists are capped at 2,500 videos. If a playlist is longer, we count the first 2,500 and tell you so on the result.
  • Unavailable videos are left out. Deleted, private and not-yet-published videos have no length to add up. They’re excluded from the total, and the result tells you how many there were.
  • Ads and pauses aren’t included. The totals are pure video time.

Why Use Retatube Instead of Screenshots?

A screenshot captures your screen, not the photo. You lose resolution, you get status-bar clutter and you have to crop every slide by hand. With a ten-image carousel that means ten screenshots and ten crops. Retatube fetches the actual image files, so the quality matches what the poster uploaded and a whole carousel takes one click.

The files go straight from Instagram’s servers to your device through our download link. We don’t keep copies of the photos on our server.

What You Get

The big number is the total length: every video’s duration added up, to the second. Under it you’ll find the number of videos counted and the average video length, which helps you guess how long each sitting will take.

The speed table is the part students and planners love. It shows how long the playlist takes at each playback speed YouTube offers, and how much time each speed saves you:

SpeedWatch timeTime saved
1×the full length—
1.25×80% of the length20%
1.5×about 67%about 33%
1.75×about 57%about 43%
2×half the lengthhalf

(Example only: on the live page the table fills in with your playlist’s real times.)

So a 10-hour course becomes 5 hours at 2×. That’s often the difference between “maybe someday” and “done this weekend”.

In Summary

Retatube’s YouTube playlist length calculator turns any public playlist link into a clear plan. You get the total length, the video count, the average video and your watch time at 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2× speed, all free and without logging in. Need the cover image of a video instead? The YouTube Thumbnail Downloader saves it in HD. For pictures from other apps, try the Instagram Photo Downloader, or see every tool on the Retatube homepage.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. Private playlists, including Watch Later and Liked videos, are only visible to their owner, so the calculator can’t read them. Public and unlisted playlists work. Retatube never asks for your Google login.

No. Auto-generated Mixes (links with list=RD…) are built by YouTube on the fly for each viewer, so they have no fixed length. Add the videos to your own playlist and calculate that instead.

Yes. If a playlist contains Shorts, they’re counted like any other video, with their real length.

The lengths come straight from YouTube’s own data, to the second, and the total is their exact sum. Videos that are deleted, private or not yet published are left out, and the result tells you how many. Ads aren’t part of the total. A result can be up to 12 hours old, because we keep recent results so popular playlists load instantly.

Yes: up to 30 new playlists per day for each network. Playlists someone already calculated recently don’t count toward it. If you reach the limit, try again tomorrow.

Yes. There’s no sign-up, no Google account and nothing to install. Paste the link and get your numbers.
